Mandarin Chinese Techniques

  • learn pinyin and characters together from the start
  • anchor each word to the first character’s radical locus
  • keep pronunciation, tone, meaning, and structure in one scene
  1. Choose the target word and identify the first character’s radical.
  2. Place the pinyin cue at that radical’s location in your palace.
  3. Layer in tone and meaning in the same image interaction.
  4. Add character decomposition notes (radical + components).
  5. Reinforce with Anki plus daily palace walks.

This section is based on the Art of Memory thread “Learning Chinese,” especially Lynne Kelly’s radical-palace and Person-Action approach, plus follow-up implementation notes from later posts.
