Anki

Anki is the long-term retention layer in this project.
Memory palaces help initial encoding; Anki keeps recall stable over time.

  • Palace first: build strong first-memory scenes
  • Anki second: schedule repeated retrieval over days and weeks
  • Speaking/reading third: convert recall into usable language
  • one deck per language:
    • Mandarin
    • Russian
    • Ukrainian
  • optional filtered decks for short-term focus (for example, current page batch)
  1. Word -> meaning
  2. Meaning -> word
  3. Character -> pinyin + meaning (Mandarin)
  4. Optional production card for active recall

Keep cards simple. Avoid adding too many fields at first.

  1. Do due reviews first.
  2. Add new cards only after reviews are complete.
  3. Keep new-card volume sustainable.
  4. Tag cards by source batch (page-001, mandarin, radicals, etc.).
  • one clear fact per card
  • avoid ambiguous prompts
  • rewrite failing cards instead of brute-forcing repetitions
  • cards reviewed
  • retention rate
  • new cards added

These metrics can be logged in your language progress pages weekly.
